THE DAHON STORY
1980
Dr. David Hon has already filed for and received 7 patents for his visionary folding bicycle. His design has vintage hon convertible ad black and whitewon awards the world over.
1983
The first folding bike was a success: offering all the riding performance of a standard bike, but transforming quickly to a compact size for stowing or carrying. 6,000 folders were built and sold in the first six months.
1984
Henry left his lucrative computer programming company and took up the marketing and administration of DAHON’s finances full time. He became Vice President the same year.
1985
The DAHON folding bike caught on across the country, and the press got wind of the DAHON brothers’ revolutionary idea. Even television was interested in showing this timely invention, and David and Henry became celebrities in their own right. DAHON has sold 10,000 bike this year.
2000
DAHON is cited in the Guinness Book of Records Millennium Edition as “the world’s largest producer of folding bicycles”.
2002
DAHON receives the Taiwan Symbol of Excellence award for its bicycle innovation.
2004
Fortune Product of the Year award for the Flo break-away bike, co-designed with Joe Murray.
2005
The revolutionary step-through Ciao wins a Eurobike award and Cycling Plus cites DAHON with Silver Bike of the Year Awards for the Speed D6 and Budget bikes.
2006
Eurobike Silver Design Award: Glide P7/P8 and the Ciao wins Fiets RAI Bike of the Year.

2012
DAHON celebrates 30 uninterrupted years of excellence and innovation in folding bikes – continuing to Dr David Hon with DAHON folding bike eezz at Eurobike set the trend for environmentally conscious people everywhere. Gains Eurobike Award and Taipei Cycle Show d&i Award for EEZZ.
2013
DAHON procures exclusive distribution deal for SKS in China and launches the Turn a New Leaf green living initiative.
2017
DAHON celebrate their 35th anniversary as world leader in folding bikes, continuing their vision of ‘green mobility’. To mark their 35th year, DAHON produce brand new model – the CURL. This ultra-compact, multi-patented model successfully launched on Kickstarter with backers pledging to bring the project to life. Later on that year, in celebration of DAHON’s anniversary, the special edition CURL i8 released, strictly limited to a run of 500.
2018
DAHON launch NuWave technology at Beijing Bird’s Nest! The brand-new technology debuted by DAHON offered faster and more compact folding and could be used for all bicycle types including small wheel units, regular or electric and even big wheeled MTB and road bikes.
2021
DAHON releases pandemic special edition, Hit, this economic model introduced greater accessibility to their green mobility initiative. DAHON wins the Gold Award for their safety disc break and Curl Folding e-bike at the Invention Awards for the innovative Safety Disc Brake technology and the Curl Ei4 electric folding bike wins the Invention Award at China Cycle.
2022
DAHON celebrates their 40th anniversary as pioneers of the folding bike industry. In celebration of their 40th year, DAHON released Anniversary 40 worldwide. This special folding model combines an ultra-lightweight carbon fiber frame and DAHONs technology showcasing 40 years of craftsmanship and expertise. The exclusive Anniversary 40 was strictly limited to a run of just 249.
2023
Unveiled D-VELO technology suite, going beyond folding bikes Announcement of "D-VELO" technology suite to improve the speed of all types of bicycles and make riding simply faster. The first sample road bike engineered by D-VELO technology suite.
2024
Create Greater Glory The New York Times crowned our Mariner D8 model as the ‘‘Best Folding Bike’’ K-Feather’’ electric-assisted folding bicycle, won the gold award for the ‘‘2024 CHINA CYCLE Creative Award’’ K9X and electric-assisted folding bicycle model Fu-Com won the Good Design Award in Japan.
